Jokowi Departs to Ukraine Following G7 Summit Attendance

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo on Monday completed his foreign visit to Germany in attending the G7 Summit. He continued his travel on June 28, to Ukraine's capital, Kyiv, where he was scheduled to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

“The President will continue his trip to Ukraine through Poland,” said Foreign Affairs Minister Retno Marsudi from Munich, Germany, on June 28.

She revealed that the Indonesian government has communicated intensively with Ukraine and Russian authorities along with international organization leaders such as the International Committee of the Red Cross President Peter Maurer and UNOCA Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator Martin Griffiths.

Minister Retno has also communicated with United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) secretary-generalRebeca Grynspan, Turkish Foreign Affairs Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu, and lastly the United Nations secretary-general Antonio Guterres.

President Jokowi will also depart to Moscow following his Ukraine visit to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin, which will take place on June 30, as reported by Russian news agency TASS.

Retno said that Jokowi’s foreign visits are under a peacekeeping mission ss the G20 presidency and as a member of the Champion Group from the Global Crisis Response Group formed by the Secretary-General. She added that Jokowi chose to contribute to this geopolitical issue.

The minister remarked that the president's visit shows his concern for humanitarian issues. President Joko Widodo will also try to contribute to addressing the food issue.
