TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesia Open and Indonesia Masters are international badminton championships held in Indonesia. This is an annual championship and is usually held in succession. Although both events are included in the official BWF calendar, both of them are two different championships, especially in their categories.

Difference between Indonesia Open and Indonesia Masters

Citing Antaranews, the Indonesia Open is a tournament listed under the BWF Tour Super 1000 category. Previously, since 2007, this championship was included in the BWF Super Series category, it was later upgraded to the BWF Super Series Premier level in 2010. There are only five championships in this category, namely the Malaysia Open, Denmark Open, China Open, All England, and Indonesia Open.

In 2018, the Indonesia Open was chosen as a tournament part of the HSBC BWF World Tour Super 1000 series because it was considered one of the best tournaments because of its popularity among athletes. The Indonesia Open is the highest event in the badminton world championship. The HSBC BWF World Tour Super 1000 series includes only three tournaments, including the China Open, All England, and Indonesia Open.

Meanwhile, the Indonesia Masters is a tournament that is included in the BWF Tour Super 750 category. Quoting Djarum Badminton, the Indonesia Open and Indonesia Masters are listed as tier 2 competitions, but at different levels.

Usually, the Indonesia Masters competition is held before the Indonesia Open. Another difference is that the prize pool provided in the Indonesia Open is higher compared to Indonesia Masters.

In fact, in 2018, the total prize pool for the Indonesia Open reached USD 1,250,000 and it was known to be the tournament with the highest prize in the world.

In terms of points, the winner of the Indonesia Masters usually obtains 9,200 points. While the Indonesia Open, the winning athlete will get 12,000 points.
