TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Religious Affairs Ministry scheduled the departure of this year’s hajj pilgrims from June 4 to 18, 2022. Before departure, pilgrims are thus supposed to ensure that their physical and mental conditions are in good health.

According to Saudi Arabia’s Health Ministry, common health problems that pilgrims are prone to during the hajj include respiratory problems, digestive disorders, skin problems, dry eyes, food poisoning, fatigue due to sun exposure, colds, flu, and bronchitis.

It is advised that pilgrims carry certain medications as follows:

1. Fever or pain reliever

Aspirin, paracetamol, and ibuprofen will be helpful to reduce pain or bodily discomfort due to having flu symptoms such as headaches and high body temperature.

2. Anti-allergy medicine

Either creams or tablets, antihistamines, or anti-allergic drugs are important to carry during the holy journey. It is able to overcome body reactions due to insect bites and other allergies.

3. Anti-motion sickness medicine

The journey to the holy land is obviously not short. You may take anti-motion sickness medication as a contingency.

4. Diarrhea medicine

During the trip, hajj pilgrims must always pay attention to the food consumed to prevent food poisoning which may lead to diarrhea. Moreover, the food in Saudi Arabia will be very different from the home food. Thus, diarrhea medicine is important to be prepared.

Other than medication, hajj pilgrims are also advised to prepare physical protection equipment, such as hand sanitizer, mosquito repellent, sunscreen to protect the skin from direct sunlight, sunglasses, and hats.

Saudi Arabia’s hot weather often causes the skin to prone to dryness and burns. Before leaving and while on the trip, make sure to meet your nutritional needs. Taking supplements containing vitamin C, vitamin D, and zinc are highly recommended to boost body fitness so that the hajj pilgrimage will run well without distractions.
