TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Ministry’s director-general of new and renewable energy and energy conservation Dadan Kusdiana, said that the government is optimistic that Indonesia will not run out of energy sources in the future as there are ample supplies of various energy sources.

Kusdiana claimed that Indonesia's potential for renewable energy is five times larger than the energy that will be used in 2060, Antaranews reported.

"We nearly have every type of renewable energy," Dadan said on Thursday, June 2, 2022.

"Someone comments [our confidence] and mentions Europe that is facing electrical issues because it focuses too much on renewable [energy]," Dadan added.

The Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry projects Indonesia's total clean energy potential reaches 3,686 gigawatts, which comprises solar energy (3,295 gigawatts), hydrogen (95 gigawatts), bioenergy (57 gigawatts), water (155 gigawatts), geothermal energy (24 gigawatts), and ocean waves (60 gigawatts).

Meanwhile, the government in 2060 is expecting to see applied renewable energy plants to produce 587 megawatts. The government will not only focus on solar or wind but also optimize other energy sources such as geothermal, which has the second-largest potential in the world after the United States.

"The potential, if calculated is five times larger than what we would be using in 2060," said Dadan.
