Ganjar Pranowo to Propose for Nusantara Electric Toll Road if Elected as President

12 December 2023 12:42 WIB

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Presidential candidate number three Ganjar Pranowo informed his vision to realize the Nusantara electric toll road as a concrete step to support electrical interconnection between islands. Ganjar believed focusing on the energy, interconnection, and electric toll road sector is a strategic step to boost the national economy.

Over 4,700 frontier, outermost, and underdeveloped villages in Indonesia, or 3T villages lack electricity, according to Ganjar. This fact is a concern considering over 40 percent on average, almost every region is oversupplied with electrical power while the location of new renewable energy sources is far from the areas requiring electricity.

"The excess of energy thus awaits investment, when it could have been distributed to regions to push for new centers of growth. This is the form of social justice that must be encouraged," he said in South Jakarta on Monday.

Ganjar also highlighted the urgency of electrical system stability which he believed to be the key to increasing new renewable energy sources. This measure will not only increase industry competitiveness but also will provide positive impacts on economic growth in general.

"We must prepare new renewable energy, to welcome the [development] we aspire," he said.

Ganjar Pranowo hoped that by designing a Nusantara electric toll road, Indonesia could achieve an adequate level of interconnection between islands. This program is expected to open investment opportunities in addition to fulfilling electrical requirements in underdeveloped areas to boost economic growth in various regions.
