TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has transferred the case file of inactive Bekasi Mayor Rahmat Effendi to the Corruption Court, Bandung. Rahmat will soon face trial for alleged bribery and trading positions in the government office.

"Prosecutor Heradian Salipi has finished handing over the case files and the defendant's indictment," KPK acting spokesman Ali Fikri said on Wednesday, May 25.

The KPK arrested Rahmat Effendi during a sting operation on January 5, 2022. Rahmat, also called Pepen, is suspected of receiving money from a number of parties in return for positions, the acquisition of a school plot in Rawalumbu District, two Polder projects plus the construction of a technical building.

Pepen is suspected of directly assigning the location to privately owned land and intervening, by directly selecting the private parties whose lands will be used for the project. He also allegedly asked them not to terminate the employment contract.

In return, Pepen asked for a sum of money from those whose lands were compensated by the Bekasi City Government, calling the funds 'mosque donation'. The money was channeled through his trusted aides, Jumhana Lutfi and Wahyudin.

The Bekasi mayor also allegedly received money from several Bekasi City Government employees as fees for getting jobs/positions. The money was allegedly used for Rahmat Effendi's operations which were managed by Mulyadi. Pepen is alleged to have received a total of Rp7.1 billion in bribes.
