TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Metro Police asked city residents to refrain from doing exercise or carrying out activities in Gelora Bung Karno (GBK) area on Saturday, May 14, 2022, because the area will be crowded with workers celebrating the May Day Fiesta.

Director of Metro Traffic Police Sr. Comr. Sambodo Purnomo Yogo explained that the appeal was issued albeit the stadium will not be closed to the public. The commemoration event of International Labor Day will begin with a workers' rally before the House of Representatives (DPR) area.

“GBK is not closed to the public but it is better to avoid the area,” said Sambodo in Monas area, Jakarta, Thursday, May 12.

He estimated that tens of thousands of workers will attend the celebration using 800-1000 buses. Thus, Sambodo opined that there will be heavy traffic on that day.

To anticipate the crowds, Jakarta Police will redirect the mass to Gate 10 of the stadium which is located before the TVRI building, Gate 7 next to the Sultan Hotel, and Gate 5.
