TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Metro Traffic Police Director Sr. Comr. Sambodo Purnomo Yogo stated that the police decided to impose non-judicial repressive sanctions on the group of inline skaters who took over public roads and were seen disregarding other traffic users on Jalan Gatot Subroto, Sunday, May 8, 2022.

The non-judicial repressive sanction is a legal action in line with the prevailing laws and regulations without going through a judicial process. The sanction was given to the group represented by the Jakarta Indonesian Roller Skating Association (Poserosi) chairman Muhammad Sal.

“We have given sanctions because the government has provided a place for roller skating activity,” said Sambodo at the Police Traffic Post in Pancoran, Tuesday, May 10.

As widely reported, a video taken on Sunday showing a group of inline skaters disrupting traffic on a major city road went viral and sparked public outrage on social platforms.

Sambodo explained that the sanction was in the form of education during the summoning process and the submission of a statement noting that the roller skaters would not repeat their actions.

“Because this is the first action, we are giving warnings, education, and an explanation to the public that what the inline skaters have done was certainly wrong and violated the rules,” Sambodo remarked.
