TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko Widodo, or Jokowi, announced in his Twitter post that he had talked with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in a phone call on Wednesday, April 27, 2022. Jokowi said that the call was intended to express Indonesia's support for the war-torn country after Russian military forces first invaded Ukraine on February 24, 2022.

"I talked to President @ZelenskyyUa from Ukraine. I once again asserted Indonesia's support for every attempt leading to a peaceful resolution," the President tweeted on Wednesday, April 27, 2022.

In addition to showing support, Jokowi also offered to provide humanitarian aid for the Ukrainian people who have been greatly affected by the war.

However, the President did not mention whether Indonesia would officially invite Ukraine to the upcoming Bali G20 summit scheduled to take place in November 2022.

As reported earlier, President Zelensky through his official Twitter account @ZelenskyyUa tweeted on Wednesday, April 27, 2022, that he "Had talks with President @Jokowi. Thanked for the support of Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, in particular for a clear position in the UN."

Zelensky ended his tweet by stating that they discussed food security issues and appreciated Indonesia's invitation to attend the G20 Summit in Bali.

The United States and Western allies have openly announced they would boycott the G20 summit if Indonesia decides to invite Russia and pushed for the invitation of Ukraine to the event.
