TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The House of Representatives (DPR) Commission III member, Desmond Junaidi Mahesa, said the alleged gratification of MotoGP Mandalika ticket and facilities received by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) deputy chair Lili Pintauli Siregar could be categorized as a violation of the code of ethics.

“This should be a violation of the code of ethics. We just need to study the mechanism of dismissal together. Does the Supervisory Council have the capacity to dismiss KPK commissioners? Or the government? Or Lili must resign? We have to look at it clearly,” Desmond said when contacted on Thursday, April 14.

He explained that if Lili is proven to have received the gratuities, the image of the national anti-graft body under the leadership of Firli Bahuri will be further tarnished. Thus, he hoped that the KPK will take stern action against its senior official if she is proven guilty and immediately make improvements.

“Many still hope that KPK will carry out a trigger mechanism in eradicating corruption. All deficiencies should be corrected after this turmoil so that the purpose of establishing the KPK is on the track,” the Gerindra politician remarked.

The alleged gratification case was first disclosed by the Indonesian Anti-Corruption Society or MAKI. MAKI coordinator Boyamin Saiman urged Lili Pintauli to step down from her position as she only burdened the KPK’s performance.

Boyamin said the KPK Supervisory Council is investigating the alleged ethical violation of Lili who is suspected to have received VIP facilities to watch the MotoGP Mandalika given by Pertamina.

“For the good of the KPK, LPS (Lili) should have resigned,” said Boyamin in a written statement, Wednesday, April 13.

Prior to the current case, Lili Pintauli was still under the KPK examination for allegedly lying at an official press conference in which she denied communicating with Tanjung Balai Mayor who is a suspect in the bribery case which was being investigated by KPK.
