TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo said that Indonesia's Covid-19 transmission rate is showing signs of dropping, which in turn sparked improvements in the economy as the lower Covid-19 number translates into increased public activities.

"We can see this in markets that are starting to be crowded, especially as we enter the Eid al-Fitr that sees an increase in buying power," said President Jokowi in a statement on Wednesday, April 13, 2022.

He also noted that the increasing community mobility is evident in the emergence of traffic congestion across a number of Indonesian cities. However, Jokowi remains optimistic that the improving condition will help to drive the economy.

"This signals increasing mobility, but also shows economic activities, which is better, mainly in tourism," President Jokowi said.

The President's statement echoes a previous statement made by Coordinating Minister of Maritime Affairs and Investments Luhut Pandjaitan on April 4, 2022. Luhut announced that there are only nine sub-districts and towns in Java and Bali that are under public activity restriction (PPKM) level III.
