TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The National Police said in a press conference on Monday that the terrorist network known as NII or the Indonesian Islamic State is rapidly spreading and in the brink of a terror threat.

Police spokesman Brig. Gen. Ahmad Ramadhan said this terrorist network is flourishing in areas such as Jakarta, Tangerang, West Java, Bali, Sulawesi, Maluku, and West Sumatra.

“The NII network is spreading massively in Indonesia,” said Ramadhan on April 11.

The NII network, he explained, has also used a structured and systematic recruitment process. One must go through four stages of recruitment in order to join this terrorist group, which are called casting, namely P1-P4. In addition, every prospective citizen must also go through three stages of allegiance.

The police, he said, have paid special attention to the NII network in West Sumatra. According to him, this network poses a terror threat because it has the desire to change the ideology of Pancasila with another ideology and has ties to terror groups in the Jakarta, West Java and Bali.

So far, the police's counterterrorism special detachment Densus 88 has nabbed 16 suspected terrorists tied to NII.
