TEMPO.CO, Bandung - West Java Governor Ridwan Kamil inaugurated reinvented toilet dubbed Torang (toilet daur ulang) that is developed near Citarum River, in Pasirluyu, Bandung City.

“This is an inauguration event of a technology innovation that I've been waiting for because the presence of the reinvented toilet can be a solution in reducing pollution in Citarum River that mostly comes from residential waste,” he in a statement, Wednesday, March 30.

The toilet uses recycling technology which converts black water collected in tanks into non-potable water to be reused for rinsing.

The construction of the toilet is claimed to be relatively fast as it only takes one week because almost all of the components are produced in the factory.

The Governor witnessed the handover of the reinvented toilet from the President Director of PT SCG (Siam Cement Group) Indonesia Chakkapong Yingwattanathaworn to Pasirluyu community unit (RW) 001 chairperson Ema Mariana on Tuesday, March 29.

The area was chosen as it does not have adequate toilets yet. Similar toilets will be built in a number of areas in a bid to reduce household waste which is one of the sources of Citarum River pollution.

“The pollution in Citarum River, which is hundreds of kilometers long, mostly comes from sewage, industrial waste, and household waste,” said Ridwan Kamil.
