TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian government is determined to expand the visa on arrival (VOA) policy for foreign tourists landing at Soekarno-Hatta Airport, Juanda Airport in Surabaya, Sultan Hasanuddin Airport in Makassar, and Sam Ratulangi Airport in Manado.

The policy was initially given to tourists only from 42 countries who landed in Bali, Batam, and Bintan.

“We see that the number of foreign tourist arrivals is rising and this VOA expansion will be conducted gradually and in a sustainable fashion,” said Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Uno in a statement, Tuesday, March 29.

VOA is granted to foreign nationals who visit Indonesia for tourism purposes, socio-cultural visits, business visits, or government assignments. Sandiaga said the VOA policy is expected to provide certainty for tourism and the creative economy businesses after two years of experiencing the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

He hoped that this momentum could boost economic revival and open up business opportunities and job opportunities. Sandiaga Uno also hoped that this visa on arrival policy will not trigger a surge in COVID-19 cases as the government also relaxed quarantine rules for foreign travelers.
