TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita on Tuesday introduced a new regulation requiring cooking oil industry to secure supplies exclusively for the micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), which is overseen under the Ministry’s Regulation No.8/2022.

This regulation basically guarantees the supply of cooking oil and helps maintain price stability and affordability for cooking oils sold in bulk.

“This is the government’s attempt to provide the public with cooking oil and make sure the economy moves through MSMEs,” said Minister Gumiwang in a statement on March 22, Antaranews reported.

The regulation oversees the distribution mechanism and supervision starting from its production phase up to its distributions, along with ensuring that the general public are presented with options that comply with the pricing upper cap.

Bulk cooking oil, under the regulation, must be sold to consumers within the price range set by the government, which is between Rp14,000 per liter or Rp15,500 per liter. There are 81 cooking oil companies the government requires to comply with this regulation.
