Jokowi on Ukraine Ceasefire: War Is a Matter of Ego

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo commented on the current geopolitical situation in Ukraine and Russia. He highlighted the absence of an agreement between the two countries to end the conflict.
“The failed ceasefire agreement in Ukraine has not only led to the armed conflict escalation but also rising number of casualties and the humanitarian crisis in Ukraine. War is a matter of ego,” he said via his Twitter account, Tuesday, March 8.
He also mentioned UNHCR data that around 1.2 million people have fled to other countries because of the war.
“If the crisis continues, there will definitely be a 'biggest refugee crisis of all century'. This is what we have to prevent from happening,” he added.
On Thursday night, February 24, the state head called for an end to the war following President of Russia Vladimir Putin’s announcement on a special military operation in Ukraine.
Russia's invasion of Ukraine has been going on for more than a week. Tensions continue to worsen and no solution has been reached to date.
The truce agreement on Saturday, March 5, failed as Russian troops were allegedly not complying with it. The evacuation of residents from Mariupol, southeastern Ukraine, was thus delayed.
