TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo talked much about his dream related to Nusantara state capital (IKN) in East Kalimantan. He showed confidence that the new capital will become an inclusive and open city for all people.
“A very friendly city for all levels of society to coexist, live in harmony, live together, and have the same opportunities to participate in building and developing Nusantara,” said the President in an event dubbed Beranda Nusantara broadcasted via YouTube at RRI Net Official channel on Wednesday, Feb. 23.
He also believed that Nusantara will become an outstanding representation of the nation so as to be a model of development for other cities. Besides, the new capital is expected to show the world how Indonesia implements its plan to achieve future goals.
The new capital will reflect Indonesia’s climate commitment to curbing emissions up to net-zero carbon and using 100 percent new and renewable energy by 2060. “[Nusantara will be] a 10-minute city, [having] 80 percent public transportation, 70 percent green spaces,” the state head explained.
Jokowi also talked of various transformations during the construction of the new capital, including the transformation of society that could be started from the city development. “This is what we will realize later at IKN,” he said.
