Jokowi Taps Bahlil Lahadalia as Ad Interim ESDM Minister

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo appointed Investment Minister Bahlil Lahadalia as the Ad Interim Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM). Bahlil temporarily replaced Arifin Tasfir who is presently undergoing self-isolation due to COVID-19.

“This morning [Friday, Feb. 4], the first meeting of the ad interim minister with all ESDM Ministry’s echelon I officials was held,” said a spokesperson for the Investment Minister, Tina Talisa, on Friday.

The appointment was stated in the official letter of the Secretary of State. The letter was received by the Investment Ministry on February 3, 2022. However, it was not clear yet as to how long Bahlil will helm the ESDM Ministry.

The ESDM Ministry’s head of the public information and cooperation bureau Agung Pribadi said Arifin Tasrif is now in self-isolation. He stopped short of detailing the case but ensured that Arifin is in good condition.

“Inshallah, he [Arifin Tasrif] will be back to work next week. Please pray for him,” Agung said.
