TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The number of Covid-19 cases in Bogor City's schools has almost doubled in just a day. On January 31, the city's health office recorded 45 positive cases. The number rose to 85 on February 1.

"Indeed there has been an increase, we are coordinating with the Bogor City Covid-19 Task Force and treating patients," Bogor City Health Office chief Sri Nowo Retno said on Wednesday, February 2.

Retno said the spike in cases from schools began when there was a report to the Bogor City Health Office on January 26.

On Saturday, January 29, 19 students and teachers contracted the virus. They come from five schools; an elementary, a junior high, and three high schools.

Since then, there have been soaring reports of the spread of Covid-19 in schools.

On January 31, Bogor City Health Office said 45 people consisting of students and teachers tested positive for Covid-19. The cases were found in, among others, SMAN 6, SMA Bina Insani, SMAN 2, SMAN 1, and SMA Regina Pacis.

Bogor Mayor Bima Arya Sugiarto had said that he would stop face-to-face learning or PTM in Bogor City.

However, the Health Office later stated that the termination of PTM would only be carried out in schools where students and teachers were exposed to Covid-19. School closures are carried out for 5 days and will be continued for 14 days if there are additional cases at the school.
