TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Trade Minister Muhammad Lutfi appealed to the public to remain wise and not panic buy as the government ensured sufficient stocks of cooking oil at affordable prices.

“We also remind all that the government will take very strict legal steps against all business actors who do not comply or attempt to violate this provision,” said Lutfi in a press conference on Thursday, Jan. 27.

Lutfi stated that as of February 1, 2022, the Trade Ministry will impose the highest retail price for cooking oil with the following range;

  1. Bulk cooking oil at Rp9,500 per liter
  2. Simple packaged cooking oil at Rp13,500 per liter
  3. Premium packaged cooking oil at Rp14,000 per liter.

“All of the highest retail prices include VAT. During the transition period, starting today to February 1, 2022, the one-price cooking oil policy of 14,000 per liter will remain in effect, taking into account the time for producers and traders to adjust [the provision],” he said.

Minister Lutfi also called on producers to accelerate the distribution of cooking oil and ensure stocks of the commodity at the traders' and retailers' levels.
