90 Schools in Jakarta Closed as Students, Teachers Positive for COVID-19

Recently, there were 43 schools in Jakarta that were closed due to the findings of COVID-19 cases, 28 of which have returned to PTM titles after sterilization. TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Deputy Governor Ahmad Riza Patria confirmed face-to-face learning (PTM) activities in 90 schools in five areas of the city were stopped following the findings of COVID-19 cases.

School closures, however, only last five days, and then on-site studies could be resumed.

“Positive cases are found in 90 schools,” said Riza in a written statement, Tuesday, January 25.

Most of the closed schools were in East Jakarta Region 1 up to 22, followed by East Jakarta Region 2 (20 schools), South Jakarta Region 2 (16 schools), and South Jakarta Region 1 (15 schools).

Here are the details of schools closed based on data collected during January 8-22, 2022:

  1. 22 schools in East Jakarta Region 1
  2. 20 schools in East Jakarta Region 2
  3. 16 schools in South Jakarta Region 2
  4. 15 schools in South Jakarta Region 1
  5. 8 schools in West Jakarta Region 2
  6. 3 schools in Central Jakarta Region 1
  7. 3 schools in North Jakarta Region 1
  8. 2 schools in Central Jakarta Region 2
  9. 1 school in West Jakarta Region 1

To date, the Jakarta government has not yet planned on stopping face-to-face learning albeit the growing number of schools closed due to COVID-19 which was in line with the rising number of Omicron cases. Riza said the city administration followed the central government’s policy regarding the school opening.

The central government earlier decided to extend the enforcement of public activity restrictions or PPKM Level 2 until January 31, 2022.
