TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Nusantara Capital City (IKN) Authority or OIKN revealed that the sixth groundbreaking in IKN in May this year is targeted for educational projects.
"The President of Indonesia has done five groundbreaking in IKN for investment projects, and the sixth groundbreaking in May is targeted for education projects," said OIKN Deputy for Funding and Investment Agung Wicaksono in Jakarta on Thursday, March 7.
"We want to build IKN as a city that is a place to work, to live, to play, and to learn," he said as quoted by Antara.
Agung added that ‘to work’ means offices, ‘to live’ means residential development, ‘to play’ means malls and sports venues, and ‘to learn’ means schools and campuses. Thus, the ecosystem in IKN is complete.
In Appendix II regarding the IKN Master Plan provided in the IKN Law, it is stated that the basic principles of education in IKN as a whole will be directed towards the concept of 21st-century education. It is in line with the vision of education in IKN of building the best educational ecosystem to meet the needs of future talents in the economic cluster, becoming a role model for higher education providers, and improving living standards.
It is also important to increase the availability of advanced tertiary education in science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and management to support the growth and innovation of future economic clusters.
Jakarta Intercultural School (JIS) became the first educational institution to enter IKN by groundbreaking Nusantara Intercultural School (NIS) in Penajam Paser Utara Regency, East Kalimantan Province on November 1, 2023.
President Jokowi, who led the groundbreaking, said that the government is committed to building support facilities in the education sector in IKN, as shown by the groundbreaking of the first international standard school in the archipelago.
