TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) stated that a magnitude 6.1 earthquake hit North Sulawesi on Saturday, Jan. 22, at 09:26 Western Indonesia Time. The epicenter was 39 kilometers southwest of Melonguane in the Talaud Islands in the depth of 12 kilometers.

Based on the data from BMKG, the quake was located at 3.67 north latitudes and 126.82 east longitude.

The center of the quake was 39 kilometers southwest of Melonguane, 147 kilometers northeast of Tahuna in Sangihe Islands, 192 kilometers of Ondong in Sitaro Islands, North Sulawesi. The quake was also located 325 kilometers northwest of Ternate, North Maluku.

The meteorology agency ensured the earthquake did not pose the potential of a tsunami.
