TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Tambora Police arrested Ridwan, 31, for allegedly setting fire to a toddler who is the child of his own friend. Police said he did it out of spite because the child's father often teased him at work.

"We arrested him yesterday around four in the afternoon," Tambora Police chief, Comr. Faruk Rozi, said on Thursday, January 13, 2022, as reported by Antara.

The incident took place Sunday night, January 9 at around 20:30 in West Jakarta's Tambora district. According to Faruk, Ridwan committed the horrible act of vengeance because the child's father frequently made fun of him at work.

The child's parents did not report the incident until Wednesday noon, January 12. Hours later, the police arrested Ridwan.

During the arrest, the police confiscated the matches used to commit the crime. Ridwan is currently detained in the police station.

The incident left the child with burns on her hands, thighs, stomach, and neck. The little girl is currently in intensive care.
