TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Executive Office of the President (KSP), in a meeting with Religious Affairs Ministry representative on Wednesday, January 13, 2022, has urged the Ministry to issue a regulation on preventing sexual violence across religious-based academic institutions.

"This needs to be pushed, the Religious Affairs regulation on eradicating sexual violence at academic institutions under the Ministry's supervision, considering such crimes happen in religious-based institutions," said Deputy II of the KSP Abetnago Tarigan during the meeting.

The Presidential Office's demand comes after the crime that shocked the nation where the owner and teacher of two Islamic boarding schools is charged for sexually violated 13 of his own female students.

"KSP is ready to be actively involved both in substance and in public communication in the process of making the Religious Affairs Ministry’s Elimination of Sexual Violence regulation," said Abetnago.

Previously on December 27, 2021, the Islamic Education Director-General Muhammad Ali Ramdhani, announced that the Religious Affairs Ministry is set to drafta regulation concerning sexual violence, which he said would be completed in early 2022.
