TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) deputy chairman Nurul Ghufron confirmed the arrest against the Regent of Penajam Paser Utara, Abdul Gafur Mas'ud during a sting operation on Wednesday afternoon, Jan. 12.

“We have arrested state officials in Penajam Paser Utara for allegedly receiving bribes and gratuities,” said Nurul on Thursday morning, Jan. 13.

He explained that the anti-graft body is still conducting a 1x24 hour examination to clarify the issue. He thus asked the public to be patient and give the team the opportunity to work on investigating this case. “We will provide more comprehensive information later,” he said.

The commission’s chairman Firli Bahuri, meanwhile, said in today's statement that his side apprehended Regent Abdul Gafur Mas'ud and ten other people for alleged corruption cases on Wednesday.

However, Firli stopped short of detailing the names of the ten people. He said the investigation team is still working to examine them.

As quoted from Antara, the KPK also sealed the official residence of the Penajam Paser Utara Regent on Jalan Unocal, Penajam District of East Kalimantan, and a number of rooms in the regency secretariat office.
