TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Deputy Mayor of Bekasi Tri Adhianto expressed concern over the arrest of Mayor Rahmat Effendi. “I surely feel concern and am sad for this, that it happens in Bekasi City,” he said before the reporters on Thursday, January 6.

However, Tri refused to comment further about the Corruption Eradication Commission’s (KPK) sting operation on the mayor and city officials, as well as the cases being handled by the agency.

He tended to choose to wait for an official statement from the chairman of the anti-graft body. “What’s clear [for now], let’s just follow the process,” Tri said, hoping the mayor is given strength and the best.

Rahmat Effendi was apprehended by the KPK in a sting operation on Wednesday, January 5. The acting spokesman for the KPK Ali Fikri said the mayor was suspected of being involved in two cases, namely the procurement of goods and services, and the auction of official positions.

KPK also arrested 11 other people who are the city officials and private parties and seized some money.
