Depok Mayor Restricts New Year's Eve Celebrations in Public

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Depok Mayor Mohammad Idris on Friday reminded residents to not excessively celebrate New Year’s Eve later at midnight that could overlook the health protocols. He believes the city’s COVID-19 cases that are currently under control must be preserved.
“Depok residents that I am fond of, active COVID-19 cases in Depok city especially, have slowly improved. We must remain vigilant against the new variant that has spread in Indonesian cities,” said Idris in a statement Tempo received on December 31.
He also announced the six important regulations that are implemented by the Depok city administration in facing the New Year’s eve, among them are closing public facilities, banning any forms of parades, barring crowds from celebrating the new year in public, and restricting operational hours of shopping centers early except for businesses categorized as MSMEs.
“Shopping centers and malls will open from 9 in the morning until 10 in the evening under 75 percent visitors capacity and with strict health protocols,” he added.
The Depok Mayor said this is in line with the Home Affairs Ministry’s Instruction No.67/2021 on the enactment of the public activity restriction (PPKM) Level 3.
