Tokopedia and the Central Java Government Collaborate to Empower Local MSMEs

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Tokopedia, part of GoTo Group, comprises three business arms, namely Gojek, Tokopedia, and GoTo Financial (GoPay), collaborates with Central Java Provincial Government to launch #BangkitBersama movement.

Tokopedia founder and CEO, William Tanuwijaya, explains that the initiative aims to increase the competitiveness of local Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) including those in Central Java, with the help of digitalization.

“In Tokopedia, we strive to develop local MSMEs through various initiatives including training, development, and equipping MSMEs for adequate promotional strategy and market expansion, also providing solutions through technology to increase their business to scale,” he stated.

The #BangkitBersama initiative takes on a hyperlocal approach, which seeks to bring the buyers closer to the nearest sellers in the area. Above all that, Tokopedia sees a significant increase in the growth of Central Java’s MSMEs.

In Tokopedia, the transaction of MSMEs in Central Java on average grew almost 1.5 times in the third quarter of 2021 if compared to the same period last year. The number of Tokopedia merchants from Central Java also jumped almost 1.5 times.

“With #BangkitBersama initiative which takes on a hyperlocal approach, we hope to strengthen GoTo Group contribution to economic recovery,” explained GoTo CEO and GoTo Financial CEO, Andre Soelistyo.

The Potentials of Central Java MSMEs in GoTo

#BangkitBersama movement conveys various programs to boost Central Java MSMEs capacity, from its production, marketing, branding, to business development. For example, there are Sekolah Kilat Seller (SKS), MSMES incubation class in partnership with Sebelas Maret University (UNS), and MSME training, in collaboration with Central Java’s government offices at the city, district or provincial level.

Tokopedia has also set up a special page dedicated to Semarang and Solo’s selected MSMEs, named Kumpulan Toko Pilihan (KTP), in which the local citizen can shop with special offers provided within the platform.

The initiative also shows Central Java Provincial Government support to local MSMEs. “#BangkitBersama is in line with our efforts to encourage local MSMEs to become a champion with the help of a digital ecosystem, so they can drive the regional economic recovery,” Central Java Governor, Ganjar Pranowo said.

Several Central Java MSMEs admitted that the GoTo Group digital ecosystem gives them many benefits. One of them is Patrobas, a sneaker brand well-known among young sneakerheads. The owner, Sebastian Surya Sutantio, felt the benefits brought by the GoTo ecosystem one of them is Tokopedia.

“We were able to empower the local shoe craftsmen of various regions. Even during the pandemic, we were able to employ our workers and our turnover reached tens of millions,” Sebastian stated.

Like Sebastian, the owner of Aneka Jaya Supermarket, Rudi said, “During the pandemic, Tokopedia and GoSend platform became our savior. On the other hand, the GoPay electronic payment system also helps maintain and facilitate our offline transactions.”

Besides the aforementioned MSMEs, other Central Java MSMEs such as Ayam Goreng Mbok Berek Ny. Subekti, Panna Coffee, Heritage Brass, Macrame Things, Folkafe, and Nasi Kulit Sultan also have experienced similar benefits and advantages by joining GoTo Group digital ecosystem, which includes Tokopedia, Gojek, and GoPay.

The collaboration between GoTo and the Central Java Provincial Government provides comprehensive and holistic solutions, not only for local MSMEs, but also consumers, and driver partners.
