TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Director of PT Kereta Cepat Indonesia-China (KCIC) Dwiyana Slamet Riyadi ensured that the reconstruction of piers for the Jakarta-Bandung high-speed railway (KCJB) project would not cause additional costs.

“The costs of the rework are borne by the contractor and will not cause potential additional cost overrun for the KCJB project,” Dwiyana told Tempo on Thursday, December 9.

The demolition of the train track’s pillar recently went viral on social media since many people suspected of a violation of procedure. The video displayed that the pier being demolished fell on one of the operating excavators.

Dwiyana explained that PT KCIC’s Quality Team and project supervision consultant CDJO discovered a shift in the alignment of pillar work in one of the project sites. Thus, the contractor was instructed to demolish and rebuild them in line with the predetermined technical specifications.

According to him, there is a standard operating procedure for the dismantling of the pier, including the safety of its construction. However, based on the results of the investigation conducted by KCIC, it was found that the contractor violated the SOP, resulting in an incident as seen in the viral video.

At present, Dwiyana said, PT KCIC's construction team and the Health, Safety, Security, and Environment (HSSE) team are conducting in-depth investigations regarding the incident and coordinating with all parties working on the Jakarta-Bandung fast train project to prevent similar incidents from recurring.
