TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Metro Police operational bureau chief Sr. Comr. Marsudianto said the 212 Reunion is not categorized as an activity of expressing opinions in public. The police thus mobilized thousands of officers to prevent it.

“This is a crowd activity,” said Marsudianto on Wednesday, December 1, as quoted from Antara.

According to him, the 212 Reunion might be deemed as a violation of Article 510(1) of the Criminal Code since there is no permit to organize such a public crowd and a parade on a public road.

The deployment of thousands of joint personnel, he added, is a humanitarian operation to keep the public safe from the threat of COVID-19 transmission.

There is still a question mark upon the agenda of the 212 Reunion. It was initially planned to be carried out in the Monas area but the Jakarta Provincial Government did not issue the permit because the area remained off-limits to the public.

The organizer then arranged an alternative venue in the Horse Statue Area. However, the Jakarta Metro Police did not issue a crowd permit due to the lack of a recommendation letter from the COVID-19 task force.

The 212 Reunion was also planned to be held at Majelis Az-Zikra, Bogor, West Java. However, the board of the foundation issued a refusal as they were still mourning the death of the son of the late preacher Arifin Ilham, Ameer Azzikra.
