DPR Aims to Finish Oil and Gas Law Revision by Late 2022

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - House of Representative's Commission VII deputy chair Maman Abdurrahman is targeting the Oil and Gas Law revision to be completed by the end of 2022. The Oil and Gas Law was included in the National Legislation Program (Prolegnas) priority in 2018, but it had to be postponed and is now seemingly neglected.
He said the revision is not a priority yet because the law had encountered a judicial review challenge, which makes its mechanism "debatable". The government, he said, was also waiting for the COP26 and the G20, with regards to zero emission carbon issues.
"However, in our political agreement in the parliament, we will include the Oil and Gas Law revision in the cumulative law," he said at the 2nd International Convention on Indonesian Upstream Oil and Gas 2021 (IOG 2021), Bali, Monday, November 29.
He also said that the pandemic was one of several considerations behind the delay in discussing the policy revision.
Maman said the parliament had reached an informal agreement to finish the Oil and Gas Law revision by 2022. Fast-tracking the revision of the Oil and Gas Law, he said, is expected to help raise state revenues from the sector.
