TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Hundreds of people staged a protest to denounce the alleged election fraud and demanded the impeachment of President Joko Widodo or Jokowi before the Parliament Complex in Senayan, Central Jakarta today, March 19. The protesters, donning black and white attire, braved the scorching heat with two command cars to make their voices heard.
Constitutional law expert Refly Harun joined the rally along with several other figures, including former chairman of Muhammadiyah Din Syamsuddin and former Commander General of the Special Forces Command, Major General (Ret.) Soenarko.
“We urge the DPR to immediately exercise the inquiry and impeach Jokowi,” Refly said in front of the Parliament Complex on Tuesday, March 19.
Refly said the rally was also attended by the People's Sovereignty Youth Movement (GKPR), labor unions, and urban poor. “Different groups [are joining the rally] with the same goal: to reject fraudulent elections and impeach the President.”
In the command car, GKPR chair Didin S. Damanhuri urged the House to immediately initiate the right of inquiry to investigate allegations of fraud in the 2024 elections.
He emphasized that a series of irregularities in the election process must be investigated. These include the Constitutional Court’s ruling on the presidential age limit and the government’s social assistance programs.
“We urge the leaders of party factions, namely PDIP, NasDem, PKB, PKS, and those who are concerned about election fraud, to initiate the right of inquiry,” Didin said in his speech.
He also encouraged the public to oversee the process and expected the disqualification of candidate pair number 2, Prabowo Subianto and Gibran Rakabuming Raka as a result of the House inquiry. “We also demand the impeachment of President Jokowi through the right of inquiry.”
