TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta Metro Police traffic director Commissioner Sambodo Purnomo Yogo announced his team will clear public streets in the capital city from any activities during the 2022 new year’s eve. This public restriction will be enforced despite the city adopting the level 2 public activity restriction (PPKM), which is initially not as strict.

“We will make Jakarta empty during the new year’s eve. Not just in Sudirman-Thamrin, but also places that are often used to celebrate the event. We will introduce a crowd free night,” said Sambodo to journalists on November 30.

As examples, he mentioned areas such as Ancol, Taman Mini, the entirety of Kemayoran, Kemang, Barito, Kota Tua, and East Flood Canal (BKT).

The enforcement of the car-free night will coincide with the simultaneous Level 3 PPKM enforced nationwide starting on December 24 and lasting up to January 2. This is mainly meant to limit public mobility during the Christmas and New Year’s Eve holidays.
