TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The government of Saudi Arabia will lift travel restrictions for Indonesia and five other countries beginning December 1, 2021. Citizens of the six countries will be allowed entry to Saudi Arabia sans the mandatory 14-day quarantine in a third country.

Saudi Home Affairs Ministry issued Thursday, November 25, 2021 a directive to scrap travel restrictions for fully-vaccinated travellers from Indonesia, India, Pakistan, Brazil, Vietnam and Egypt. This regulation is slated to take effect as of December 1, 2021 at 01:00 a.m.

The ministry added the decision was taken by taking into account local and global pandemic developments. However, it explained that incoming foreigners are subject to five-day quarantine regardless of their COVID-19 vaccination status.

The Saudi government at the onset of the year issued travel restrictions following the spiking figures of global COVID-19 due to variants detected in the U.K., South Africa and Brazil.

The restrictions affected Indonesia, Lebanon, the UAE, Egypt, Turkey, the U.S., the U.K., Germany, France, Italy, Ireland, Portugal, Switzerland, Sweden, Brazil, Argentina, Pakistan, South Africa, India and Japan.

Flights from and into Saudi Arabia were first suspended on March 14, 2020—two weeks after the WHO declared COVID-19 a global pandemic.
