TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Co-founder of Formula E Alberto Longo said the electric car race will be held in accordance with regulations. The Jakarta Provincial Government also paid a reasonable fee for its implementation.

“I can assure you that Jakarta is not paying more than other countries have paid,” said Longo at a press conference in Menteng, Central Jakarta, Wednesday, November 24.

He dismissed issues that Jakarta was the only city that paid a dedication fee. He explained other cities paid a commitment fee and claimed the investment was beneficial for them.

“The investment costs will certainly return to the country [hosting the event],” Longo added.

According to him, the electric car race event is in line with the government's mission to address air quality and is one of the government's responsibilities for pollution control. “This is not just a race, but also an e-movement,” Longo remarked.

Formula E was initially scheduled to kick off in 2020 but was delayed in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. Thus, the remaining contracts will enter in the 8th, 9th, and 10th seasons until 2024.

Longo hoped that Formula E could take place from June 2022 and would consider the continuation of this racing event in Jakarta while reviewing the potential for the three years.
