No Trash Cans at MRT Jakarta; Anies Baswedan Explains Why

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan recalled that a minister gave him input regarding the lack of trash cans at MRT Jakarta stations and trains. Anies said the minister suggested the city administration add more garbage bins in the train area.
“It's true that there are no trash bins on the MRT. So it's not lacking, but there are no trash bins at trains and stations,” said Anies during an event of the Environmental Agency at Jakarta City Hall, Wednesday, November 24.
The minister then, Anies added, asked what if passengers wanted to dispose of their trash. He replied that they could pocket their own waste and then throw it into trash cans at their homes or workplaces.
According to the governor, not disposing of garbage in public places must become a habit that may lead to creating a culture. He hoped that the public must be responsible for their own garbage.
“Take responsibility for the waste you made. Don't leave the responsibility to someone else,” he remarked.
Anies Baswedan went on to say that there are around 100,000-120,000 people taking MRT Jakarta or Ratangga daily. That means, hundreds of thousands of people per day could train themselves not to throw garbage anywhere.
