TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian National Police (Polri) on Monday confirmed that the personal data of police personnel remain secure after an alleged Brazilian hacker claimed to have breached the police’s app server.

“Data servers and National Police apps and security systems are all secure so far,” said Polri spokesperson general Dedi Prasetyo on November 22. The police general previously announced that reports on an alleged hacking would be investigated.

Asked about the validity of the leaked data that had spread in social media, the Police criminal investigation unit’s cybersecurity team said it cannot be validated and insists that the crucial data remains in safe hands.

“The data are safe,” he said, Antaranews reported.

Reported on November 18, a self-proclaimed hacker under a Twitter account @son1x666 claimed to have broken into the data of the National Police members. “You just got hacked b****!” tweeted the account, saying to be from Brazil on Wednesday, November 17.

The account wrote down three sites in its post. One of them shows a message and is suspected to be a list of violations committed by police members. The list includes the policemen’s name, rank, work unit, last position, address, ethnicity, and sanctions.

The hacker also claimed that the data breach was carried out alone. “I'm doing this because I don't support the government and the way they treat their own people,” the account said.

Many Indonesians, the hacker said, contacted him and told him about the situation. So he helped them as much as he could. “This is the reason I did this,” he said.
