TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) on Wednesday announced that the south Java Sea was struck by a magnitude 4.9 earthquake earlier this morning at 09:50 Western Indonesia Time (WIB).

The BMKG head of earthquakes and tsunami Bambang Setiyo Prayitno said the quake’s epicenter is located 7.60 degrees South Latitude and 105.84 degrees East Longitude over sea.

“It is located around 109 kilometers Southwest of Pelabuhan Ratu City in Sukabumi, West Java,” said Prayitno on November 10.

WIth its hypocenter at 47 kilometers, the quake is considered a shallow earthquake. The agency concludes that it was sparked by the Indo-Australian plate thrust fault towards the Eurasian plate and was measured at the MMI II scale. No aftershocks until 10:20 WIB were reported and no tsunami warnings were triggered.
