Moderate Earthquake Shakes Sulawesi's Buton Area

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Meteorology, Geophysics, and Climatology Agency (BMKG) on Tuesday announced that the Buton Regency in Southeast Sulawesi at 10:19 Central Indonesia Time (WITA) has been struck by a magnitude 4.7 earthquake.
The epicenter of the quake is detected at 5.32 South Latitude and 123.16 East Longitude and was on land 0.6 kilometers southwest of South Lasalimu in the Buton Regency, Antaranews reported.
Based on its epicenter, the quake was determined to be a shallow quake that is likely caused by local cesarean activities southwest of the region. Effects felt by the earthquake were measured at III-IV MMI scale.
No reports on damages have been reported and the agency also said it did not trigger a tsunami warning and recorded zero aftershocks.
