TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A joint rescue effort by the Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) of Batu City announced more casualties after the region was hit by a flash flood on Thursday. As of Friday, five bodies were recovered from the area with three of them still needing further identification.

“The latest report as of 10:00 Western Indonesia Time (WIB) is that three of the five bodies that were recovered remained unidentified,” said National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) spokesman Abdul Muhari on November 5.

The joint team from the local search and rescue agency, the Indonesian Red Cross, the Armed Forces (TNI), and the National Police rescued five people. Local reports suggested there were four people who were missing after the flash flood subsided.

Local officials and residents are collectively leading searches for missing people and cleaning up the debris that ransacked a village in the region. BNPB has distributed basic aids for displaced residents.
