Komodo Island Fire Extinguished; Investigation on Cause of Fire Underway

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A fire broke out at a savanna located in the Rinca Island, which is part of the Komodo National Park, on Tuesday afternoon, November 2. Komodo National Park confirmed that the fire was able to be extinguished on Wednesday noon.
“Thirty two rangers were mobilized to the location, and additional seven rangers this morning,” said the head of the Komodo National Park Lukita Awang on November 3, Antaranews reported.
The fire was first reported on Tuesday 15:00 Central Indonesia Time (WITA) by national park officials. Around 50 people consisting of rangers and locals worked hand-in-hand to put out the fire.
Awang assured that park officials have swept the entire area and made sure that no fire was left, saying that Komodo habitats in the island are currently safe. “The cause of the fire is still being investigated. The weather was extremely hot and the wind could possibly be the cause.”
