TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta Provincial Government and the Bekasi City Government signed today an extended agreement allowing trash from the capital to be dumped to the Integrated Waste Management Site or TPST Bantargebang. Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan said the deal was valid until the next five years.

“This extended deal is for the next five years while we are finalizing the waste management agenda in Jakarta,” said Anies at the City Hall, Central Jakarta, Monday, October 25.

The previous agreement ended on October 26, 2021. The extended deal notes that Jakarta must pay compensation for garbage smell to people residing near the final disposal site.

Jakarta Environmental Agency Head Asep Kuswanto ensured that the compensation value would not change from the previous years reaching Rp 379.5 billion per year.

Jakarta has expanded the integrated waste treatment site up to 7.5 hectares, “to build two waste processing facilities,” Asep told Tempo on Thursday, September 16, 2021.

The piles of garbage in the site have now reached its maximum height of 50 meters in the existing land of 104 hectares. A total 7,400 tons of waste are produced by Jakarta residents daily to be dumped to TPST Bantargebang.

According to Asep, the two facilities are landfill mining and a refuse-derived fuel (RDF) facility. “If there is no obstacle, the construction will begin in November to start operating in December 2022,” he added.
