TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian National Police (Polri) Chief Listyo Sigit Prabowo announced that he will not hesitate to punish on-duty police personnel who commit legal violations.

He made it clear that his firm warning is meant to protect the institution that still houses good and law-abiding members.

"This must be handled seriously," he said on October 19 in an online conference with Regional Police Chiefs from across Indonesia on Tuesday, October 19, 2021. "I do not want to see a repeat in the future.”

During the conference, he instructed police chiefs to not think twice in punishing their own members who are proven to violate the law. Prabowo suggested these "bad apples" should face termination or disrespectful dismissal from the police force.

He made his intentions clear after stating that he will personally take over leadership of a police sector if officers are unable to follow his instructions.

"If there are those who act against the law, which could severely damage the image of the [police organization], I ask for them to be given firm punishments. Don't take long and dishonorably dismiss them and process their criminal proceedings," he added.
