TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian National Police (Polri) Chief of Internal Affairs Division (Propam) Insp. Gen. Ferdy Sambo, urged members of the public to take an active role in monitoring the police institution and field personnel.

He assures that the internal monitoring currently conducted will be strengthened to comply with Polri's mission to better gain public trust, Antaranews reported.

"In an attempt to develop a police force that is more professional, transparent, and accountable in providing its services," said Sambo following his visit to the National Commission on Human Rights (Komnas HAM) on Tuesday, October 19, 2021.

Sambo explained that there are a number of programs introduced by the police that enable the general public to participate in monitoring police personnel such as the Dumas Presisi and Propam Presisi mobile apps. He claims that the programs will enable people to file direct complaints regarding police professionalism.

The National Police has been under public scrutiny following a series of cases involving police members that brings the question of professionalism. Some of the cases include the alleged sexual violation of a minor by a police member in East Luwu Regency, the recent viral video that showed a police member body-slamming a student protester in Tangerang, and the suspect-naming of a victim of assault in Medan.
