TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Transjakarta electric bus have started serving passengers on the Blok M-City Hall route since yesterday, September 16. State-run bus operator Transjakarta spokesman Iwan Samariansyah said the bus operates every day and the ticket fee has not been set yet, meaning that the public can still enjoy a free ride.

Passengers, however, still must tap in and tap out on the Tap On Bus machine provided. The trial of the green transportation mode will last for the next three months.

“The buses are operating well and still need time to meet the minimum requirements, which is a maximum of 45 people in a normal condition. Now there are around 20 passengers,” said Iwan in Jakarta, Friday, September 17.

The bus operates every day from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. serving the Blok M-City Hall route. Passengers must comply with the predetermined health protocols, including presenting a vaccination certificate of at least the first dose.

Transjakarta targeted to operate 100 units of electric buses in 2021 across the capital city to support eco-friendly urban transportation.

“We will operate these buses in stages. For 2021, we are eyeing to deploy 100 buses,” said Transjakarta President Director Sardjono Jhony Tjitrokusumo. He hopes 10,051 electric buses will operate on the capital streets by 2030.
