TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Deputy Governor Ahmad Riza Patria said the Jakarta Supreme Audit Agency (BPK) did not recommend to postpone the electric car race Formula E. The agency also did not find state losses or potential losses from the budgeting of the international event.

“On that basis, the Jakarta Provincial Government will host Formula E in 2022,” said Riza in the Jakarta BPK Office, South Jakarta, Thursday, September 16.

The results of the Jakarta BPK audit on the city’s 2019 financial report highlighted the budget issue of Formula E which was deemed a burden to the Jakarta Budget or APBD. The Jakarta BPK thus issued three recommendations regarding the event.

Governor Anies Baswedan was recommended to instruct the Youth and Sports Agency Head to develop a design for the involvement of stakeholders, as well as options to obtain a self-financing and revenue management plan.

Anies was asked to order the Youth and Sports Agency Head and city-run developer PT Jakarta Propertindo or Jakpro to further clarify the sustainability of the event and make plans to mitigate upcoming obstacles.

The Jakarta BPK also recommended Anies order the Youth and Sports Agency Head and Jakpro to evaluate the feasibility study results and adjust them to the latest conditions in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Anies Baswedan targeted to host the electric car race in June next year as noted in the Gubernatorial Instruction No. 49 of 2021 on the regional priority issues in 2021-2022. The plan to host Formula E, however, sparked polemic in the Jakarta Legislative Council (DPRD).
