TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The sexual violence criminal bill was expected to complete by this year, said Willy Aditya as the Legislation Body (Baleg) deputy chairman of the House of Representatives (DPR). The bill was previously known as the sexual violence eradication bill or RUU PKS.

Willy, who is also the bill working committee chairman, targeted the ratification of the bill to be a gift for Mother's Day which falls on December 22.

“We are trying to finish it in this period. Inshallah, it will be a gift for Mother's Day on December 22,” Willy told Tempo on Tuesday night, September 7.

He explained the target was set as the new bill had been presented by Baleg’s team of experts. Several changes in the bill proposed during the 2014-2019 DPR period and discussed in Commission VIII included its title and definition and types of sexual violence which were dropped from nine to four types.

The NasDem politician also expressed optimism that the bill discussion would run smoothly after the bill was revised. “I'm optimistic [it will run well],” Willy said.

He underlined that the revised bill would not be far from the initial spirit to protect victims of sexual violence. If there were no changes in the bill, Willy opined, it would be impossible to continue the bill discussion in the DPR.
