TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian National Police (Polri) headquarters on Tuesday announced the discontinuation of the investigation on the alleged data breach on Indonesia’s Covid-19 tracing app eHAC or Electronic Health Alert Card.

“Results from the investigation conducted by the Polri cybersecurity team against the Health Ministry and its partners found no attempts of data retrieval on the eHAC server,” said Polri spokesperson Insp. Gen. Argo Yuwono on September 7.

Previously, the Health Ministry’s head of data center Anas Mas’ruf insisted there were no data leaks or breaches against the eHAC system that is under the ministry’s authority. “The data about the general public in the eHAC were not exchanged to partnered platforms.”

The National Cyber and Encryption Agency (BSSN) spokesperson Anton Setiyawan added that what happened was not a data breach. He defended that the initial report by vpnMentor researchers was actually about the trade information sharing process.

Anton claimed the institutions and stakeholders that care about cybersecurity would often share information with each other.
“We received valuable information from vpnMentor and were able to verify it to the Health Ministry which followed up the report regarding information about the vulnerability,” said Anton.
