TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Anti-Corruption Community (MAKI) assessed that the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) should dismiss Lili Pintauli Siregar from her position as deputy chairman after she was found guilty of communicating with graft suspect Tanjungbalai Mayor M. Syahrial.

“The KPK Supervisory Board’s ruling seems to have not fulfilled the public sense of justice because the sanction should be a request to resign, or dismissal,” said MAKI coordinator Boyamin Saiman on Monday, August 30.

Boyamin asked Lili to resign for the sake of the anti-graft body’s good image and corruption eradication programs in Indonesia. “Otherwise, the defects or stains from the action will always hold KPK hostage so eradicating corruption efforts will be hampered,” he said.

MAKI is still mulling to report Lili to the National Police Criminal Investigation Unit based on Article 36 of the KPK Law, Boyamin added.

The KPK Supervisory Board decided that Lili was guilty of ethical violation in the trial of the Tanjungbalai Mayor. The board handed her a 40-percent basic wage cut for 12 consecutive months.

Tumpak Hatorangan, the chairman of the KPK Supervisory Board, said Lili Pintauli Siregar committed two mistakes, viz. misusing her influence for personal interests and communicating with an individual who was being investigated by the KPK.
